The ISDN switch-off is the process where Openreach prepares for the withdrawal of the Public Switched Telephone Network (PSTN). The current telephone network will not be supported past the end of 2025. Voice services are now available over internet connections, with the advancement of new technology. This makes the use of the old copper network redundant.
What’s going to change?
All services that run over the old network will be discontinued. This includes traditional phone lines, ADSL and FTTC connections.
Instead, most areas will look to using a full-fibre connection. Openreach plans to bring FTTP services to more areas in the UK. This will make it easier for people to get a fast and reliable internet connection.
How will my broadband be affected?
Openreach’s goal is to provision more and more premises with FTTP to give businesses the opportunity to move onto the fibre network, with time to spare before 2025.
Opting for a full fibre internet connection will ensure that you have a more reliable connection, that is not affected as easily by distance or wear and tear. There are different speeds available so you can ensure you have enough bandwidth to support your business.
How will my phone service be affected?
You won’t be able to make calls using the old network after the ISDN switch-off in 2025. If you have an ISDN or PSTN line, you will have to migrate to an IP system.
Voice over IP (VoIP) is an easily scalable solution that offers flexibility. You can use our system on desk phones, plus via an app on your mobile. We can also design a system for you that suits your requirements. For example, you may need a voice-menu setting up to allow customers to reach the right department. The other advantage is that you can make changes as you go, and our support team will be there to help you!
